Fairfax is seeking candidates to fill technician roles in our Assembly, Repairs and Moulding Workshops.  In particular, we are seeking candidates who possess the following personal attributes:

  • Physically robust – able to operate effectively in a busy workshop environment
  • A strong work ethic with reliable attendance
  • A positive, approachable personality and the ability to stay focused and productive under pressure
  • A self-motivated individual who works well both in a team and autonomously and who takes pride in their workmanship/the finished product

Assembly Technicians / Repair Technicians

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assemble or fabricate components/parts/pieces to required specifications for all manufactured new build truck and trailer bodies, using a variety of tools and equipment
  • Read, interpret and follow basic diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, repair worksheets and other written instructions or procedures to complete accurate assembly or repair of individual jobs in the workshop
  • Work closely with the Assembly Workshop Manager/Operations Manager and the rest of the Assembly team to ensure all work is delivered within scheduled deadlines
  • Perform quality checks on own completed work to ensure the product meets specified quality standards
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area – work with Assembly Workshop Manager and company H&S representatives to ensure a safe working environment and maintain compliance with H&S legislation

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ practical experience gained in a mechanical assembly technician role in the heavy transport industry or a similar manufacturing/engineering environment, supported by strong technical knowledge and capabilities and full competence with a wide range of tools and equipment
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly with a high attention to detail
  • Some experience of working with fibreglass would be an advantage, but not essential

Painter & Sandblaster

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete safe sandblasting of parts and components as directed and required by Fairfax
  • Complete painting of parts and components as directed and required by Fairfax
  • Provide support (in an Assembly Technician role) to the rest of the Assembly team as directed and required by Fairfax
  • Work closely with the Assembly Workshop Manager and the rest of the workshop team to ensure all scheduled work is delivered within scheduled deadlines
  • Perform quality checks on own completed work to ensure the product meets specified quality standards – identify product defects and communicate issues to Service & Repairs Manager/Operations Manager
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area – work with Assembly Workshop Manager and company H&S representatives to ensure a safe working environment and maintain compliance with H&S legislation

 SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum 1 year practical experience gained in a painting, sandblasting, mechanical assembly technician or repairs role in the heavy transport industry or a similar manufacturing/engineering environment, supported by strong technical knowledge and capabilities and full competence with a wide range of tools and equipment
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly with a high attention to detail
  • Good reading skills – able to follow written instructions
  • Good time management skills – an ability to execute workflows to meet scheduled deadlines despite competing and changing priorities

Fibreglass Technician

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply knowledge of moulding processes, machine operating techniques and production methods to ensure the structural integrity of all shells produced is of the highest quality
  • Read, interpret and follow basic diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, repair worksheets and other written instructions or procedures to complete accurate production of shells in the workshop

 
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum 1-2 years practical experience gained in a fibreglass laminator role in a manufacturing/engineering environment, supported by strong technical knowledge and capabilities and full competence with a wide range of tools and equipment OR a willingness to learn
  • Experience working with chopper guns, gel-coating, application of vacuum bag lamination and hand layout lamination techniques - an advantage but not essential
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly with a high attention to detail
  • Good reading skills – able to follow written instructions
  • Good time management skills – an ability to execute workflows to meet scheduled deadlines despite competing and changing priorities
